HENRY "HANK" SARTORIS

Henry "Hank Sartoris, a 30 year veteran of the Burbank Police Department died on April 24, 2004, at the age of 89.

Sartoris was born on January 27, 1915, in Canon City, CO.

He came to California on an athletic scholarship from Loyola University, where he played football and basketball.

He graduated in 1938 with a bachelor's degree in history. After graduation, he worked at Paramount Studios. During World War II, he worked in the San Pedro shipyard.

He joined the Burbank Police Department in 1945 as a patrolman which was then represented by the Burbank City Employees Association. In 1946, Sartoris was on the BCEA's bowling league representing the Police Department. He then became a detective in 1954.

In 1975, Sartoris retired from the department. He played fast-pitch softball for the city leagues in Burbank and coached many years for the Police Athletic League, a youth softball program sponsored by the Police Department.

He served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Burbank City Employees Federal Credit Union from 1970 to 1998 and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. He and his wife were married for 64 years.

Hank is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Jim Sartoris; daughters, Joan Gerard and Nancy Baldino; seven grandchildren, Tracee Baldino, Joey Baldino, Lisa Sartoris Magley, Nick Sartoris, Steven Sartoris, Christy Allen, and Jim Gerard; and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Magley.
